Gewürztraminer as tricky to spell as it is to grow.  Finicky-it tends to set very different crop levels each year-from less than a ton-per-acre to five or more.  Plus it's very sensitibe to damage and it ripens in late September and early October.  This means it takes more man-hours per acre than other varieties to grow it properly.  Not every region that grows Gewürztraminer manages to bring out unique aromas amd flavors of rose petals, tea, nutmeg, lychee and grapefruit.  Fortunately, the North Fork is one place where Gewürztraminer tends to over-delivery on its varietal promise.
